Dr. Orlich earned his degree in medicine at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Mexico, later completing his residency in orthopaedics and trauma at the University of Costa Rica. In addition, he completed a fellowship in arthroscopic knee surgery and sports medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. He is Board-certified in Costa Rica, and has been a professor at the University of Costa Rica for many years.
